Annotation

From the urban point of view, the primary conceptual intention is to add a material solution to the current unfinished city block
and at the same time create a solid border of the "square" Orionka. The aim is also not to insulate this block, but to offer an expansion of quality public space in the newly created courtyard. An important part of the design is the preservation of the current industrial halls, which in the past served as a tram depot. The proposed solution does not interfere with the load-bearing structures of the halls, with the sole exception of the northern hall. Part of the northern hall frees up space for the newly created extension. One of the possible assignments of this studio was to create a height dominant, but since I came to the conclusion that this location does not need another height dominant, the northern extension forms this dominant in a horizontal position. The new block is complemented by the southern extension, which is already more materially subtle and creates a border from the south side.
The whole block functions as a community center, which includes social halls, lecture halls, a library, classrooms, study rooms, offices, restaurants, cafes, galleries, but also, for example, an outdoor auditorium and a generous public space. The area also includes a museum of electric railways, which recalls the past of this area.
